Detailled Nikon D700 review by Dpreview

Dpreview has posted the awaited detailled D700 review. No really news but a serious test about pros and cons. I quote:

“The D700’s most obvious strength though is its high ISO performance (which again is very similar to the D3’s)”

“Speed wise the D700 is as good as it gets in this class of camera.”

Leica S2 and a 56% larger sensor

Leica has announced a brand new DSLR system with their Leica S2 featuring a 30 x 45mm sensor (more than 56% larger than 35mm full-frame) delivering 37.5 megapixel in a weatherproof body.

Included is a whole range of new lenses: 24mm ultrawide, 35mm wide, 70mm standard, 100mm short tele, 120mm macro, 180mm telephoto, and 30mm tilt-and-shift optics. You can find all about the new system here.

New Nikon AF-S 50/1.4G

Nikon has announced the first of it’s new primes, the AF-S 50/1.4G lens featuring a built in silent wave motor and a brand new optical system with 8 elements in 7 groups for improved image quality,  a circular aperture diaphragm for more attractive background blur, and a barrel design which does not change length on focusing

Canon 5D Mark II: 21 MP and videos

Canon has announced the long awaited successor to the 5D: the Canon EOS 5D Mark II features a new 21 Megapixel CMOS sensor, ISO from 50 to 25600 and is like the Nikon D90 capable to record videos:

  • 21.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor
  • improved EOS Integrated Cleaning System
  • Full HD 1080 resolution movie recording
  • 3.9 frames per second continuous shooting
  • Maximum 310 large JPEG images in a single burst with a UDMA card
  • 3.0″ 920k LCD screen
  • ISO 100-6400 (boostable from 50 up to 25,600)
  • 9 AF points + 6 Assist AF points
